(now Burmah Castrol) Founded in 1886 by a Scottish merchant, David Cargill, for the purpose of transporting lamp oil, easily available in Burma, to the markets of India. The company developed India's oil industry as well as Burma's, and with *BP was involved at the start of developments in the Gulf.
