Blue Peter
|
|
(BBC from 1958) The most distinguished and long-lasting of the children's programmes on British television. Aiming at the 5–12 age group, and usually appearing twice weekly, it introduces a wide range of subjects and has made a speciality of charitable appeals. Among its best-known presenters has been Valerie Singleton (on the programme 1962–71). A 'blue peter' is a signal flag, blue with a white square at its centre, which a ship flies when it is about to leave port.
