Hilaire Belloc
|
|
(1870–1953) Prolific and versatile French-born author, educated in Britain and naturalized in 1902. He is best remembered now for his comic verse (The Bad Child's Book of Beasts 1896, Cautionary Tales 1907), for his discursive travel writing and for his ardent Roman Catholicism. The two latter themes were combined very successfully in The Path to Rome (1902), an account of a pilgrimage on foot from northern France.
