April Fool's Day
|
|
The tradition of jokes at the expense of the gullible on the first day of April exists in many countries, but its origin is unknown. In Britain newspapers and television companies, in addition to children, make the most of the opportunity. The Guardian has published on that day detailed reports from the island of San Serife, and in 1957 BBC TV scored a notable success with Richard Dimbleby showing the long soft tendrils being picked from trees in the Italian spaghetti harvest.
