St Cuthbert
|
|
(c.635–87) Born in northeast England, he was a monk at *Melrose and in his last years bishop at *Lindisfarne. His reputation for saintliness caused his bones to be regarded as very sacred relics. They were removed from Lindisfarne because of *Viking raids, and after two centuries of uncertain travel found a final resting place in *Durham. His feast day is March 20.
