coroner
|
|
The name derives from the Middle Ages, when a coroner looked after the private property of the crown. The function of a coroner today is to hold inquests in two areas – the cause of any violent or unexplained death, and cases of *treasure-trove. Appointments to the office are limited to lawyers or doctors, and in practice coroners usually have qualifications in both fields.
