(also known as Wingate's Raiders) Guerrilla force, combining British, Gurkha and Burmese troops, which operated behind the Japanese lines in *Burma from 1943. They were organized by Orde *Wingate, who also suggested their name – from chinthé, a mythical Burmese lion which they used as a badge.
