A *ballad of border warfare between the English family of Percy and the Scottish family of Douglas. The title refers to a hunt in the *Cheviots, in which Percy deliberately provokes Douglas by hunting deer on the Scottish side of the hills. In the ensuing battle both leaders die, together with most of their men.
