Popular name for the Prisoners (Temporary Discharge for Ill Health) Act of 1913. This was the government's very effective solution to the problem posed by *suffragettes on hunger strike in prison. To avoid their becoming martyrs, the act allowed them to be released from prison and then re-arrested when their health had recovered.
