Carl Rosa Opera Company

The leading company touring productions of opera in English round Britain in the first half of the 20C. It was founded in 1875 by a German violinist and conductor (originally Karl Rose, 1843–89) after the death of his wife, the Scottish soprano Euphrosyne Parepa (1836–74). It lasted until 1958, when its remnants merged with what later became the *English National Opera.
