The legendary location of King *Arthur's court. There have been several candidates for its origin if the legends are based on fact. In the *Morte d'Arthur it is at Winchester; when Malory was writing, the supposed *Round Table was already in the Great Hall there. Other leading claimants are *Caerleon and Cadbury Castle, an Iron Age hill fort in Somerset.
