Jack Cade
|
|
(d. 1450) Leader of a Kentish rebellion in 1450 against high taxes and misgovernment under Henry VI. The rebels entered London and killed the king's treasurer before dispersing on promise of a pardon, but Cade continued his resistance and was himself killed. The rebels sympathized with the Yorkist branch of the royal family, and the civil disorder was part of the broader unrest in the country leading to the *Wars of the Roses.
