Burlington House
|
|
(London W1) Best known now as the home of the *Royal Academy, the house takes its name from the earl of *Burlington who in about 1717 employed Colen *Campbell to remodel it in the *Palladian style. That part, considerably altered, is the building at the end of the courtyard. The other three sides were added in 1868–73 in a government scheme to house the various learned societies which now share the premises with the Academy.
