(1827–81) A leading architect and designer of furniture in the *Gothic Revival style. His interiors, characterized by a wealth of sculpted and painted detail deriving from medieval models, are an important feature of *Cardiff Castle and *Castell Coch. In the same manner he built a domestic castle for himself in London, the Tower House, at no. 9 (now 29) Melbury Road.
