Bubbles
|
|
(1886, Royal Academy on loan from A&F Pears) Painting by *Millais of his grandson Willie James (later Admiral Sir William James) blowing bubbles. It was bought by Messrs Pears, who published it as a chromolithograph on which they had added a bar of Pears soap at the child's feet. The indignation of the artist was sufficient for the soap to be removed from later issues of the print.
