Boys' Clubs
|
|
The first clubs for boys and young men were founded in the mid-19C in the industrial cities, particularly London, Liverpool and Manchester, to provide for those who had few leisure facilities. A National Association was formed in 1925 and there are now more than 2000 clubs round the country, some with a mixed membership of boys and girls, for people aged between 11 and 19. Group activities are mainly in the countryside, from mountaineering and caving to all forms of water sports.
