Boxing Day
|
|
The day after Christmas, which has been a *bank holiday since 1871. In the church calendar December 26 is the feast of St Stephen, and it only became known as Boxing Day in the early 19C. The name derives from householders giving presents, or Christmas 'boxes', to servants and tradesmen on that day.
