Bodnant
|
|
(13km/8m S of Llandudno) One of the most magnificent gardens in Britain, created by four generations of the family of Lord Aberconway (of these Henry Pochin was the first, beginning the work in 1876). Bodnant's special beauties are made possible by two factors: the warm, damp climate of the Gulf Stream, and an extraordinary location. There are distant views of Snowdonia from the formal terraces at the top of the garden. The visitor then gradually descends into the romantic ravine of the river Hiraethlyn, alive with waterfalls and a profusion of woodland plants and shrubs, with a special emphasis on camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons.
