The Blind Girl
|
|
(1854–6, Birmingham City Art Gallery) Painting by *Millais, sentimental in mood but still in the hard, bright *Pre-Raphaelite style. A beautiful blind girl, probably a beggar, is basking in the warmth of the sun but is unable to enjoy the spectacular double rainbow seen in the sky behind her. To make the point, the child accompanying her peeps backwards for a glimpse of it. The landscape shows Winchelsea, in Sussex.
