|
|
(13 Aug. 1704) A victory over the French, in the War of the *Spanish Succession, by the British under the duke of *Marlborough and the Austrians under Prince Eugene of Savoy; the village of Blenheim (German name Blindheim) is on the north bank of the Danube about 37km/23m northwest of Augsburg. The victory ended the French threat to Vienna, and was of great psychological importance as the first major defeat of a French army for half a century.
