(London SW8) This landmark south of the Thames, with its four great corner chimneys, was designed by Giles Gilbert *Scott and was completed in 1937. Ceasing in the 1980s to have a practical function in the generating of electricity, it was acquired to house a theme park and was gutted before being abandoned when funds ran out. It stands now as a vast and hollow shell.
