J.C. Bach

|
(Johann Christian Bach, 1735–82) Known as 'the English Bach', he was the 18th child and youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach. He came to London in 1762 as opera composer at the King's Theatre and soon acquired various royal appointments. From 1764 he promoted (with Karl Friedrich Abel, 1723–87) the series of subscription concerts which for the next two decades were the centre of London's musical life. Bach's own orchestral works influenced both Haydn and Mozart.
